Abstract

Turning of super duplex stainless steel (SDSS) is carried out under several cutting conditions, namely, dry, wet and gas cooled cutting conditions in this work. The experiments are carried in a CNC lathe and uncoated carbide inserts tools are used for turning operations. The inserts are held in a tool holder and the turning operations are performed in controlled environment. Comparing all the three methods, the gas cooled machining gives the better performance.
