Abstract

The Lemon Grass biodiesel blend tested for performance parameters like thermal efficiency, fuel consumption and exhaust emission - Hydro Carbon (HC), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Nitric Oxide (NOx), Smoke Opacity. It has, however, also contributed to large increase in NOx emissions as a major deficiency. The researchers noted that lemon grass biodiesel substantially increased fuel consumption, increased NOx and marginally decreased in other emissions including Carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbon (HC) and Smoke opacity from the simulated and experimental works. The goal of the present study was to resolve this problem by introducing an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) method. LGB B20 and pure diesel were tested on a variably loaded VCR engine (i.e. 1.3, 2.6, 3.9 & 5.3 Kg) and with varying EGR levels (i.e. 10, 20 & 30).
