Abstract

Cells secrete diverse types of membrane vesicles of endosomal and plasma membrane origin called exosomes and microvesicles into the extracellular environment that influence other cells in a good way or bad way. These nanosized vesicles have an important role in the intracellular communication by paracrine mode of action, wherein they serve as vehicles for transfer between cells of membrane and cytosolic proteins, lipids, and RNA and also micro RNAs responsible for the exchange of genetic material between the cells. This paper would focus on the role of microparticles and exosomes in lung injury and various diagnostic and therapeutic measures that can be developed.
