Abstract
Angular distributions and excitation functions were measured for the reaction 19F(p, α) 16O(g.s.) at proton energies from 12.4 to 18.0 MeV. The reaction mechanism is discussed in two respects: (i) At forward angles the reaction exhibits angular distributions with a diffraction pattern, almost independent of incident energy. DWBA calculations are performed to describe this part of the differential cross section. (ii) The excitation functions at backward angles show resonance-like structures. A comparison with resonances found in elastic α- 16O scattering and in other reactions having an α⊗ 16O configuration, supports an interpretation of the present results as resonances, connected with the exit channel configuration.
