Abstract

This paper focuses on revealing the most significant effect of time delays (TDs) on load frequency control (LFC) performance of multi area hybrid power system (MAHPS). Dynamic behavior of MAHPS is examined subjected to the perturbation of 10% step load (10%SLP) on area-1. Conventional PID controller is enacted as secondary regulator rendered optimally using water cycle algorithm (WCA) subjected to the index of integral square error (ISE). However, efficacy PID using WCA is demonstrated with comparative performances of genetic algorithm (GA) and moth flame optimizer (MFO) based PID approaches. Analysis is carried on MAHPS with and without taking TDs into account to exhibit its effect. Finally, effect of TDs on LFC performance is visualized and their importance is clearly demonstrated.
