Abstract
Abstract In the present work, Aluminium composites were fabricated through conventional stir casting process. The composites were fabricated at 800°C inside the electric furnace in the presence of inert gas. AA5083 and B4C particulates with varying weight % of 5, 10, 15 and 20 were used as the starting materials. The microstructure of the composites was examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The physical and mechanical properties of the composites were investigated and the results show that the increase in B4C content in the aluminium matrix increases the tensile strength and hardness of the composites to a significant level. The decrease in density accompanied by increase in porosity was also observed with the increase in B4C.
