Evaluation of Pedestrian Service Quality for Indian Roads

Abstract

Over the past 10 years, India’s traffic flow has expanded dramatically, resulting in congested and densely populated highways. To address these problems, traffic engineers have directed more of their attention towards creating highways that prioritize automobile traffic, frequently at the expense of the safety of pedestrians in crowded urban areas. With as little vehicle-pedestrian interaction as possible, this study aims to create a pedestrianfriendly environment. Determining the study area's Level of Service (LOS) is essential. LOS is a metric to evaluate how well different road users, such as cars, bicycles, and pedestrians, get along. A questionnaire intended to elicit responses in real-time from individuals in the road environment was used to collect qualitative data to calculate the PLOS. All age groups and genders participated in the poll, which consisted of yes/no questions, rating-based questions, and questions with logical choices. The study's findings on pedestrian safety suggest that the study area is a good place for people to walk. Participants thought the neighborhood was safe and the road had all the needed amenities, making it enticing for pedestrians.
