Abstract

Friesian crossbred is the most popular dairy animal in Bangladesh though very little work has been done on production performance at various blood level on southern part of this country. The current study was carried out to investigate milk yield performance of this popular crossbred cow genotype having three different blood levels in Barisal district (Ganges tidal flood plain area) of Bangladesh. Thirty-three (33) crossbred cows were assigned in which 11 were 50% Local-50% Friesian, 11 were 25% Local-75% Friesian and 11 were 25% Local-50% Friesian- 25% Sahiwal considered for current study. Microsoft Excel was used to analyze collected data. Highest average daily milk yield of 5.74 lit. was obtained from 25% Local-50% Friesian-25% Sahiwal, followed by 5.24 lit. from 25% Local-75% Friesian and 3.96 lit. from 50% Local- 50% Friesian cows. In case of 50% Local-50% Frisian, highest average daily milk was found in 5th lactation while lowest was in 1st lactation. For 25% Local- 75% Friesian and 25% Local-50% Friesian-25% Sahiwal, highest mean milk yield per day was found in 3rd lactation while in 1st lactation it was lowest. It was concluded that among the three crossbred genotypes studied 25% Local-50% Friesian-25% Sahiwal was most efficient in term of milk production in southern part (Barisal district) of Bangladesh
