Abstract

In this study, Aluminum Al7029 based hybrid composites have been developed by choosing Tungsten Carbide particulate, Fly ash as reinforcements. The liquid metallurgy technique was utilized to manufacture hybrid composites. The Tungsten Carbide particulate is added in the weight percentage of 3 wt%, 5 wt%, and 7 wt% whereas Fly ash was fixed at 4 wt%. The mechanical properties of hybrid composites such as tensile strength, hardness, and impact strength were examined by conducting experiments according to ASTM standards. The results demonstrated that the hardness along with the tensile strength of Al7029 alloy improved with the inclusion of tungsten carbide and also fly ash reinforcements. There are no significant changes are found in impact strength with the variation of reinforcement content. SEM was employed to evaluate the fracture surfaces and also to identify the impact of tungsten carbide and also fly ash particles.
