Abstract

A practical procedure is described for the calculation of the counting efficiency curve as a funtion of the external standard channel ratio in β-ray emitters. Using tritium as a standard we obtain the efficiency curves for 14C, 99Tc, 185W, 36Cl, 89Sr and 32P in different liquid scintillators. It is shown that the use of tritium as a standard reduces the uncertainties in the counting efficiency for higher energy β-ray emitters. The agreement betweeen calculated and experimental results is better than ± 4% in al cases.
