Abstract

Liquid scintillation counting is a powerful tool to measure radionuclides decaying by a single electron capture (E.C.) branch. This paper describes a method to obtain the counting efficiency curve in terms of the quenching parameter. The different ways of atomic rearrangement are studied and the relationships with their probabilities given; the counting efficiency is deduced. The method is applied to 55Fe using three different liquid scintillators. The agreement between calculated and experimental results is better than ±6%.
