Abstract

Background: Hormonal management is first-line therapy for acute abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) in adolescents. Studies have demonstrated efficacy of oral contraceptive pill (OCP) and progestin tapers and single dose therapy for acute AUB, but comparative studies, side effects and patient satisfaction rates are lacking. Our objective was to implement QI measures to standardize evaluation of acute AUB and prospectively assess time to amenorrhea, patient satisfaction and side effects in teens treated with OCP taper versus single-dose OCP and progestin.
