Abstract

A prepiloted electronic survey sent to all nurse practitioner postgraduate residency/fellowship programs in Washington State asked participants to identify how practicums evaluate prescribing-specific functions. Of the 8 respondents (66.7% response rate), most accept new or recent graduates without the need for reentry or remediation of their license. Clinical focus for participants includes family practice (62%), adult internal medicine (37%), pediatrics (25%), or acute care inpatient (25%). Most do not use competency-based assessment. No program offers current content in authorizing medical marijuana. Additional content is advised to align with national recommendations regarding routine screening for drug and alcohol misuse.
