Abstract

In order to investigate the impurity effect on non-radiative transition, we measured photoluminescence (PL), photoluminescence excitation (PLE) and photoacoustic (PA) spectra of tetracene-doped anthracene molecular crystals. We considered three radiative and non-radiative transitions to set up rate equations; from the anthracene exciton band to the ground state, from the anthracene exciton band to the tetracene impurity level and from the tetracene impurity level to the ground state. It was clarified from the results that the luminescence quantum efficiency due to anthracene decreases with increasing impurity concentration. Decrease of the quantum efficiency was discussed in terms of the change in transition matrix element.
