Abstract

The advantages, applications and design principles behind using electron spin resonance (ESR) spectrometers at millimetre and sub-millimetre wave frequencies are outlined. A sensitive quasioptical ESR spectrometer operating in the frequency range 80-200 GHz and temperature range 2.5 K to 250 K is described and some of the future technical challenges in the design of high field ESR spectrometers are discussed.
