Abstract
This study analyses forced displacement due to violence in Mexico. The research adopts Amartya Sen's development-as-freedom approach and the world systems approach as a conceptual framework. The quantitative methodology is carried out through a descriptive and statistical analysis of the characteristics of people who are victims of forced displacement due to violence, in contrast to people displaced by other causes and non-displaced people, as well as the factors associated with the phenomenon. Results show that Forced Displaced People due to Violence (FDPV) are at a disadvantage compared to the population Displaced by Other Causes (DOC). Even though FDPV have a higher level of education, they have lower incomes, more precarious housing conditions, less access to health services, and less equipment than their counterparts. Their only comparative advantage is having more Information and Communication Technology (ICT) resources and living with the complete household nucleus.
