Abstract
Equilibria of the reaction of copper(II) acetate with perchloric acid and lithium acetate were investigated by spectrophotometry. The reaction of copper(II) acetate with perchloric acid is written as follows: Cu 2( OAc) 4 + 2 HClO 4 ⇌ β 11 2 Cu( OAc)( ClO 4) + 2 HOAc Cu 2( OAc) 4 + 4 HClO 4 ⇌ β 12 2 Cu( ClO 4) 2 + 4 HOAc where HOAc denotes acetic acid. Overall formation constants of the complexes are determined as log β 11 = 3·5 ± 0·1 and log β 12 = 10·4 ± 0·1. Equilibria of copper(II) acetate with lithium acetate are written as follows: Cu 2( OAc) 4 + 2 LiOAc ⇌ β 26 Li 2 Cu 2( OAc) 6 Cu 2( OAc) 4 + 4 LiOAc ⇌ β 14 2 Li 2 Cu( OAc) 4 Overall formation constants of the complexes are given as log β 26 = 0·89 ± 0·05 and log β 14 = − 0· ± 0·1.
