Abstract

This paper presents the determination of principal stresses, strains, and shear stresses due to thermal cycle load experimentally as well as using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in the objective lens cell of Head-Up Display for aircraft application. The principal stresses and strains in the objective cell are obtained by adopting two methods namely a highly correlated FEA and strain gauge technique. The stress and strains results obtained from aforesaid both the methods were analyzed and found satisfactory. The results obtained were validated with allowable stress tolerance limits of the glass laid down by some researchers and rule of thumb in optics.
