Abstract
Purpose. The article is devoted to the viewpoint of social science topic of environmental security in the context of contemporary reality. The subject of analysis are the institutional, systemic and phenomenological aspects of the interaction of man and nature, as well as the factors determining the nature of these relationships. Methodology. An analysis of the social dimension of the problem demanded recourse to the structural-functional approach; the theory of social construction of reality reflected the active role of knowledge of the subject in the formation of ideas about the social environment; phenomenological methodology allowed to consider the individual aspects of the formation of the social world. Results. Determination of the social nature of the problems with access to the factors of development of environmentally constructive and destructive activities. It has been shown that a significant proportion of negative social processes caused by private social interests come into conflict with the general social orientation to the preservation of the natural environment. Social consciousness is presented as the leading determinants of formation of environmental performance. Practical implications. Results of the study can be used in the further development of mainstreaming of social determinants of negative environmental trends and design.
