Abstract
As a part of our continuing thermodynamic study of ternary liquid alloys containing aluminium we have investigated the AlGaSb system. This paper deals with the enthalpies of formation of the AlSb and AlGaSb alloys. Mixing enthalpies of AlGa, AlSb, GaSb and AlGaSb systems were investigated in the temperature range 968–1227 K using the drop method into a Calvet microcalorimeter. Because of the volatility of antimony, the antimony-rich part of the ternary composition triangle could not be studied but an extrapolation from experimental results allows us to propose the AlGaSb isoenthalpic curves on the one hand and the enthalpy of formation of the AlSb system on the other. Some equilibrium temperatures belonging to the liquidus surface were also deduced.
