Abstract

The alternatives of eco-friendly chelating agents to NH3·H2O as well as sintering in oxygen-free atmosphere are essential for the LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 in terms of lowing NH3-derived pollution and preparation cost. In here, the new green and low cost preparation process of NCM811 has been proposed. At first, the Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1(OH)2 precursor is successfully synthesized with hydroxide co-precipitated method via using the citric acid and the sodium glutamate as the composite chelating agents. Then, the influences of the precursor pre-oxided using H2O2 solution and sintering atmosphere on the micro-structure and electrochemical performance of LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 are investigated. The results indicate that the sample S5 with the pre-oxidized Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1(OH)2 and being calcined in the flowing CO2-free air possesses the excellent rate capability and cycle stability. The analysis results of EIS and GITT show that the surface film impedance and charge transfer impedance of sample S5 are low and stable. And the Li-ion diffusion coefficient of sample S5 is equivalent to that of the sample S4 calcined in pure oxygen atmosphere. The enhanced electrochemical performance of the sample S5 could be attributed to the decrease of the NiO phase content and the oxygen deficiency on the surface of the LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2.
