Abstract

Emission and decay kinetics of CeF3 and CeF3 : Cd2+ single crystals were studied. While only radiative energy transfer can explain emission properties of CeF3, the nonradiative Forster mechanism must be employed for CeF3 : Cd2+. Ce3+ cations coupled with anion vacancy are considered as trap emission centres. The critical radii of dipole-dipole mechanismR0 = 7.4 and 14A˚are calculated forT = 4.2 and 295 K.
