Abstract
The unstable and highly reactive free radical contained an unpaired electron in a nuclear orbital, which are generated inside the body by strong impact of UV light, ionizing radiation, smoking, air pollution, injury, and inflammation. The free radicals produce oxidative stress which plays a role in inflammation, ageing, diabetes, obesity, cancer, cardio vascular, skin and neurodegenerative disorders via disturbances in levels of various biomarkers. The free radicals are killed by an antioxidant thought oxidation of different atoms, thus, protects DNA from harmful impact. Antioxidant defense, which comprises both endogenous and exogenous chemicals, protects biological systems against free radical toxicity. Many foods and medicinal plants contain antioxidant phytomolecules, which have an essential role in the mitigation and treatment of chronic disorders, such as inflammation, cancer, diabetes, ageing, cardiovascular issues, etc. induced by oxidative stress.
