Abstract

Helen Seignior thoroughly explores the subject of embryology in this fascinating two-part series. In this first instalment, she outlines the duration and complex physiological processes that comprise the pre-embryonic period with the aid of accessible language and engaging illustrations. Part two will be published in the October 2021 issue of The Student Midwife and focus on the embryonic development of the main bodily systems and some of the associated congenital malformations that may arise.
