Abstract
The optical properties of the rutile titanium dioxide compound have been investigated experimentally by transmission spectroscopy measurements and theoretically by a full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FPLAPW) method within the local density approximation (LDA). The optical properties in terms of the dielectric functions and optical absorption coefficient have been calculated. The LDA band-gap energy is corrected by an on-site Coulomb potential. The resulting optical absorption were found to be in a very good qualitatively agreement with the experimental results. (© 2004 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
