Abstract

Investigation on iodine-iodide redox system was carried out using cyclic voltammetry at graphite electrode in aqueous HIx solution at different concentrations of iodine and HI. Prominent oxidation and reduction reactions were identified using semi-quantitative relation between electroactive species concentration, and post-peak diffusion limited current was employed. Formation of iodate at higher positive electrode potential was confirmed by chemical analysis along with XRD identification of iodate on the electrode. Results of the cyclic voltammetry studies and the electrochemical species participating in the electrode reaction were correlated to the electro-electrodialysis cell operation for HIx concentration in application towards iodine-sulphur thermochemical cycle.
