Abstract

ABSTRACT The sulfur-iodine (SI) thermochemical water splitting cycle is one of promising hydrogen production methods from water using high-temperature heat generated from a high temperature gas-cooled nuclear reactor (HTGR). The SI cycle consists of three main units, such as Bunsen reaction, HI decomposition, and H 2 SO 4 decomposition. The feasibility of continuous operation of a series of subunits for H 2 SO 4 decomposition was investigated with a bench-scale facility working at ambient pressure. It showed stable and reproducible H 2 SO 4 decomposition by steadily producing SO 2 and O 2 corresponding to a capacity of 1 mol/h H 2 for 24 hrs.KEY WORDS : Hydrogen(수소), Thermochemical water splitting cycle(열화학적 물분해 싸이클), SI cycle (SI 싸이클), H 2 SO 4 decomposition(황산분해), Bench-scale test(벤치 테스트) 한국수소 및 신에너지학회 논문집(2011. 4), 제22권 제2호Trans. of the Korean Hydrogen and New Energy Society(2011. 4), Vol. 22, No. 2, pp. 139~151 † Corresponding author : mizzou333@kist.re.kr [ 접수일 : 2011.2.2 수정일 : 2011.3.31 게재확정일 : 2011.4.22 ]
