Abstract

We show how to compute the linear electro-optical spectra of low-dimensional systems (LDS) in the excitonic energy region using the dynamical density matrix approach. The method is applied to GaAs/Ga1—xAlxAs superlattices (SL), quantum wells (QW), quantum wires (QWW) and quantum dots (QD), and the electro-optical functions are computed. In the case of SLs and QWs we compute the electro-optical functions when a uniform electric field is applied in the growth direction. In the case of QWWs we compute the optical functions of a matrix containing QWWs exposed to a uniform electric field in the QWW direction. In the cases of QDs we consider parabolic confinement and obtain a quadratic Stark shift of the excitonic absorption peaks.
