Abstract

Sound velocity and attenuation measurements were performed on polycrystalline samples of the stoichiometry YBa 2Cu 3O x and (Y 1 − yPr y)Ba 2Cu 3O 7. The values of the bulk modulus and the Poisson ratio and their temperature dependences are affected by oxygen content and the praeseodymium substitution. For both systems a thermally activated relaxation process was found and analyzed. Effects of the sound velocity at the magnetic phase transition of PrBa 2Cu 3O 7 at T N = 16 K were observed. Measurements of the transverse sound attenuation and velocity in ceramic (BiPb) 2Sr 2Ca 2Cu 3O 10 superconductors were performed with and without a magnetic field. The dynamic of thermally assisted flux flow and a depinning transition of the flux line lattice were studied.
