Abstract

Monocytes and macrophages are part of the innate immune system. They come from bone marrow precursor cells, and we can find them in almost all the organs and tissues of the human body. Monocytes and macrophages help us to eliminate pathogens and infections, to promote the inflammatory and anti-inflammatory immune response, and repair damaged tissues. For this reason, they are very important to keep our body healthy and in physiological balance.
In this section, we will describe the generalities of these cells to understand their origin, function, subtypes, their participation in different types of diseases and their regulation mechanisms withinthe immune response.
