Abstract

Utilization of gunny sack waste is still very limited and not proportional to the amount of gunny sack waste produced, even though gunny sacks have characteristics that have the potential to be used as an alternative material for interior aesthetic elements. Its characteristics include, woven fibers that are strong, mildew resistant, textured, stiff and hairy. In addition, gunny sacks have a brown color that gives a natural impression. This research tries to explore and optimize the character of the gunny sack using the Chenille Technique. This technique produces a unique hairy texture with a variety of colors resulting from layering with the additional fabric. The Chenille technique is a textile manipulation technique that is rarely used, thus making the output of this study potentially have good novelty value. This research is a qualitative research with an experimental method. The designed product is an interior aesthetic element in the form of a decorative 3D panel.
