Abstract

Abstract In the present study, new ultrahigh strength micro-alloyed steel has been developed for automotive and structural applications through thermo-mechanical controlled processing (TMCP) to compare mechanical properties with quenching and tempering (QT) heat treatment. The investigated steel shows the mixed structure of bainite and martensite in case of TMCP process and martensite and tempered martensite in case of QT process. The specimen processed at TMCP followed by air cooling has shown the best combination of mechanical properties, with more than 1650 MPa along with total elongation of >15%..
