Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects of loratadine combined with montelukast on improvement of pulmonary function in children with cough variant asthma. Methods Ninety-three children with cough variant asthma were divided into control group and observation group according to random number table method, with 46 cases in control group and 47 cases in observation groupe. The control group was given loratadine, and the observation group was treated with montelukast sodium on the basis of treatment of the control group. The time for the disappearance of cough, asthma, lung wheezing and the recovery of lung function in the two groups were observed after treatment. Results After treatment, the total effective rate of observation group (93.60%) was significantly higher than that of control group (76.08%), and the time of cough, lung wheezing sound, asthma and other symptoms in observation group were shorter than those in control group (P<0.05). The recovery rate of forced expiratory volume (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC), FEV1/FVC, daytime or night expiratory flow rate (PEF) in observation group were significantly better than those in control group at the same time (P<0.05). Conclusions Loratadine combined with montelukast in the treatment of children with cough variant asthma is effective. It can significantly improve the total effective rate of treatment and improve lung function. Key words: Loratadine; Montelukast; Child cough variant asthma; Pulmonary function index
