Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of laparoscopic appendectomy on levels of serum lipoxygenine A4 (LXA4), white blood cell count (WBC) and the incidence of complications in patients with acute appendicitis. Methods Seventy-four patients with acute appendicitis were divided into control group and study group according to random table method, with 37 cases in each group. The control group underwent conventional open appendectomy, and the study group was treated by laparoscopic appendectomy. Surgical conditions [operation time, intraoperative blood loss, pain score by visual analogue scale (VAS)], postoperative recovery of the body (get out of bed time, anal exhaust time, start eating time, hospital stay), the incidence of complications, preoperative and postoperative serum LXA4 and WBC levels were statistically compared between the two groups. Results The operation time, intraoperative blood loss and postoperative VAS score in study group were lower than those in control group, the difference was statistically significant (P 0.05), but the levels of serum LXA4 and WBC levels in the two groups after operation were lower than those before operation, and the indexes in study group were lower than those in control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05); the incidence of complications in study group [10.81% (4/37)] was lower than that in control group [35.13% (13/37)], the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusions Laparoscopic appendectomy in the treatment of acute appendicitis gets a significant effect, which can effectively reduce the operation time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative pain, body function recovery time, and significantly reduce levels of serum LXA4 and WBC and incidence of complications with high safety, so it is worth of promotion. Key words: Laparoscopic appendectomy; Acute appendicitis; Lipoxygenine A4; White blood cell count; Complication
