Abstract

Objective To explore the effects of high-concentrated brine with metronidazole sitz bath on the treatment of perianal inflammation in leukemia patients. Methods The study investigated 76 acute leukemia patients with perianal inflammation who were hospitalized from June 2010 to December 2014. The participants were randomly divided into two groups: control group and observation group, 38 cases in each group. Based on the normal nursing care and antibiotic therapy, the patients of control group received 1∶5 000 potassium permanganate sitz bath; the patients of observation group received 1.6% high-concentrated brine with 0.1% metronidazole sitz bath. The recovery effects of patients′ perianal inflammation would be compared after 30 days. Results Treatment effective rate of the observation group (94.7%) was higher than that of the control group (78.9%); the positive rate of perianal pathogenic bacteria of the observation group was lower than that in the control group (χ2=4.15, 12.48; P<0.05). Conclusions The method of high-concentrated brine with metronidazole sitz bath is effective and convenient on the treatment of perianal inflammation in leukemia patients, and it should be further developed in clinical practice. Key words: Acute leukemia; Perianal inflammation; Brine; Metronidazole; Sitz bath
