Abstract

Objective Combined orthodontic-periodontal regenerative surgery treatment was performed on the periodontal patients. The changes of the periodontal index was evaluated before and after treatment. Methods Eleven adult patients with periodontal disease were selected(17 teeth with angular resorption).PPD(probing pocket depth) and CAL(clinical attachment loss) were taken before and after surgery and orthodontic treatment. The changes were evaluated.Data were analyzed by SPSS13.0 software. Results The PPD and CAL decreased after periodontal regenerative surgery treatment.[PPD from (5.91±1.05)mm to (3.02±1.09)mm,CAL from (7.02±1.81)mm to (3.83 ±1.55)mm].PPD did not have significant change before and after orthodontic treatment, while the CAL decreased to (3.37±1.22)mm.Conclusions Combined orthodontic-periodontal regenerative surgery treatment can not only correct the malpositioned teeth to solve the occlusal trauma, but also improve the periodontal conditions. This treatment is safe and effective.
