Abstract

Objective To explore the effects of periodontal tissue regeneration combined with orthodontic treatment on efficacy, incidence of adverse reactions and gingival indexes levels of patients with periodontitis. Methods The clinical data of 136 cases of patients with periodontitis treated in orthodontic department of our hospital from January 2016 to December 2017 were retrospectively analyzed, and the patients were divided into control group and observation group according to the different treatment methods, with 68 cases in each group. Control group was treated with basic periodontal tissue regeneration, and observation group received an extra orthodontic treatment on this basis. The gingival indexes of probing depth (PD), clinical attachment loss (CAL), plaque index (PLI), gingival index (GI), efficacy and incidence rate of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results After treatment, the gingival indexes of PD, CAL, PLI and GI in observation group were all statistically lower than those in control group [(2.86±0.21) mm vs (3.21±0.33) mm, (P=0.000); (1.96±0.97) mm vs (2.34±0.56) mm, (P=0.006); (0.95±0.31) points vs(1.27±0.36) points, (P=0.000); (0.33±0.46) points vs (0.62±0.39) points, (P=0.000)]. Conclusions Periodontal tissue regeneration combined with orthodontic treatment for periodontitis can effectively improve the periodontal status, reduce the incidence rate of postoperative complications, improve teeth aesthetics, and thus it deserves clinical promotion. Key words: Periodontitis; Periodontal tissue regeneration; Orthodontic
