Abstract
The effect of mutual radiation impedance on active power reduction is investigated both theoretically and experimentally. The mutual radiation impedance is computed for circular piston transducers and its effect on active power reduction is discussed for several arrangements of transducers. Some arrangements can provide significant power attenuation in the 30 dB range. The active and reactive intensities for a test array radiator consisting of five PZT Langevin transducers are measured in water, and notable effects of the mutual radiation impedance on active power reduction are demonstrated.
