Abstract

Objective To explore effectiveness of combination of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine therapy for patients with Barrett esophagus(BE). Methods Patients with BE were divided into the control group and observation group according to random number table. The observation group was received treatment of combination of argon plasma coagulation(APC)and traditional Chinese medicine, while the control group was received treatment of APC alone.Clinical effectiveness was observed at 3,6,12,18months after treatments, recurrence rate was observed 6,12,18months after treatments. Results Clinical effectiveness were significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group 3,6,12,18 months after treatments(χ2 =4.71,3.55,7.28,5.10,all P<0.05). Recurrence rate were significantly lower in the observation group than in the control group 6,12,18 months after treatments(χ2=5.84,6.51,all P<0.05). Conclusion Combination therapy of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine shows confirmed effects to BE. Low recurrence rate in addition makes it become a promising clinical therapy in treatment of BE. Key words: Argon plasma coagulation; Barrett esophagus; Traditional Chinese medicine
