Abstract

On January 30, 2020, the WHO declared COVID-19 outbreak a global health emergency. Psychosocial and mental health problems arising in the aftermath of the outbreak of COVID-19 are an issue, especially for healthcare workers. Knowledge of the prevention and management of Psychological Issues related to COVID-19 is an important aspect. A pre-experimental one-group pre-test, post-test design to assess and evaluate the knowledge and practice of ASHA workers before and after the administration of an educational package on the prevention and management of psychological issues related to the COVID-19 Pandemic in selected Govt. Dispensary Delhi. A sample of 100 ASHA workers who provided health services during the COVID-19 Pandemic was selected by purposive sampling technique. A structured knowledge questionnaire and a structured practice rating scale were administered to assess the knowledge and practice of ASHA workers regarding the prevention and management of Psychological issues related to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Educational package was found to be effective in enhancing both the knowledge and practice of ASHA workers with the “t” value of 14.67 and 9.42 respectively at 0.05 level of significance. There was a positive correlation (r=0.225) between the post-test knowledge and post-test practice score of ASHA workers on the prevention and management of COVID-19. The practice was found to be significantly associated with age and education. The study findings reveal that the Educational package was effective in enhancing both the knowledge and practice of ASHA workers.
