Abstract
1. An experimental relation between the rate of growth of a martensitic phase and temperature was constructed for the first time. 2. A monotonic decrease of crystal growth rate with falling temperature was established during martensitic transformation. (Russ. Ed. Note: R. Mehl established that the rate of martensite crystal growth in steels does not depend on temperature. This distinguishes the martensitic transformation in steels from a similar transformation in non-ferrous metals).
