Abstract

Objective To observe the effect of reduced glutathione on the oxidative stress in type 2 diabetes mellitus with high urinary albumin excretion rate(UAER).Methods Sixty-two patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were divided into diabetes group(DM group,30 cases) and high UAER group(DM2 group,32 cases). All of the patients were given reduced glutathione on the basis of glucose-lowering treatment. The changes of fasting plasma glucose (FPG),total cholestrol (TC),triacylglycerol (TG),high-density hpoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C),creatinine (Cr),blood urea nitrogen (BUN),UAER,malondialdehyde (MDA),superoxide dismutase (SOD) before and after treament was collected and compared with that of 25 healthy subjects (control group). Results There was no significant difference in TG,HDL-C,LDL-C before treatment among three groups (P > 0.05).TC before treatment in DM2 group was higher than that in control group and DM group, and there was significant difference (P <0.05).TC,LDL-C after treatment in DM group and DM2 group was decreased compared with that before treatment, and there was significant difference (P < 0.05),TG had a downward tendency,HDL-C had a rising trend, but there was no significant difference (P > 0.05).Compared with that in control group,SOD in DM group and DM2 group was decreased before treatment, and MDA was increased, and there was significant difference (P< 0.05).Compared with that in DM group,SOD was decreased before treatment, and MDA was increased, and there was significant difference (P < 0.05).SOD after treatment was higher than that before treatment and MDA after treatment was lower than that before treatment in DM group and DM2 group, and there was significant difference (P < 0.05).UAER was decreased after treatment compared with that before treatment in DM group and DM2 group, and there was significant difference (P< 0.05).With SOD and MDA as dependent variable,UAER as independent variables, correlation analysis showed that SOD was negatively correlated with UAER(r =-0.64,P < 0.05),MDA was positively correlated with UAER(r =0.56,P < 0.05).After adjustment for age,TC,TG,HDL-C,LDL-C,FPG,and so on,SOD and UAER still showed a negative correlation (r =-0.41,P < 0.05),while MDA was positively correlated with UAER (r =0.37,P < 0.05).Conclusion Reduced glutathione can effectively improve the oxidative stress injury of diabetic patients, and has certain improvement of UAER. Key words: Glutathione; Oxidative stress; Urinary albumin excretion rate
