Abstract

Objective To explore the relationship between serum adiponectin and vaspin and diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetic patients with nephropathy. Methods A total of 120 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were divided into three groups according to the urinary albumin excretion rate (UAER): normal albuminuria group (UAER 200 μg/min, n=35). Forty healthy subjects were included as the control group.Serum levels of adiponectin and vaspin were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay ( ELISA). Then, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), urea nitrogen (BUN), serum creatinine (Cr) and fasting insulin (Fins) levels together with UAER were determined. Results The serum levels of adiponectin and vaspin of the diabetic patients were significantly higher than those in the control group (P 0.05). With increasing UAER, serum adiponectin level increased (P<0.01). Serum vaspin and body mass index (BMI), WC, systolic blood pressure (SBP), FPG, triglycide (TG), fasting insulin (Fins) positive correlation (P<0.01). Serum adiponectin and FPG, Fins, HDL-C level, Cr was related. Conclusion Adiponectin and vaspin has certain correlation with diabetic nephropathy, serum adiponectin level along with the progress of diabetic nephropathy rising, while vaspin drops as the progress of diabetic nephropathy. Key words: Diabetic nephropathy; Vaspin; Adiponectin
