Abstract

In this paper, we report the effect of poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) blend polymer solution on the formation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was investigated. AgNPs have been synthesized by a chemical reduction method from the silver nitrate in PVA/PVP polymer blend solution, which acts as a stabilizing agent reduced with sodium borohydride. Nano sized Ag have been characterized using UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), selective area energy dispersive (SAED), Energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy and Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) studies. The results confirmed that formed AgNPs were depending on ratio of PVA/PVP blend solution 5:5 (v:v %) ratio showed optimum results with a size range of 15–30 nm. Synthesized AgNPs exhibited effective photocatalytic and antibacterial activity.
