Abstract
ABSTRACT This study reports the results of experimental and numerical investigations on the thermal performance of a miniaturized phase change material (PCM) heat sink coupled with heat pipe. Initial studies are conducted on two different configurations of PCM heat sink with heat pipe (i) HSHP (i.e., PCM coupled at evaporator of heat pipe) (ii) HPHS (i.e., PCM coupled at condenser of the heat pipe). The results showed a superiority of HSHP over HPHS by up to 98.8% in the charging cycle. Experiments are conducted on HSHP with different melting temperature PCMs. The HSHP with high melting temperature PCM showed high thermal performance.
