Abstract

Objective To analyze the influence of nursing extension services on the mental state and self-management of elderly patients with cataract. Methods 80 elderly patients with cataracts who were admitted to our hospital from March, 2017 to March, 2018 were selected, and were randomly divided into a control group and a study group, 40 cases for each group. The control group were routinely cared; in addition, the study group received nursing extension service. The intervention period of both groups was 1 month. The HAMA score, HAMD score, self-management ability, quality of life score, and nursing satisfaction were compared between the two groups. Results After the nursing care, the scores of HAMA and HAMD were (12.01±1.11) and (11.08±1.04) in the study group, and were (19.62±2.14) and (16.66±2.08) in the control group (both P<0.05); the scores of self-management ability were (19.62±3.66), (23.62±4.15), and (23.62±5.62) in the study group, and were (13.52±2.05), (15.25±3.61), and (17.62 ± 3.21) in the control group (all P<0.05); the scores of quality of life were (20.62±3.61), (17.62±3.62), (22.62±3.58), (19.62±3.66), and (23.62±1.52) in the study group, and were (16.02±2.02), (13.52±2.14), (15.25±2.14), (14.25±2.28), and (18.66±2.64) in the control group (all P<0.05). The nursing satisfaction was significantly higher in the study group than in the control group (95.00% vs. 72.50%, P<0.05). Conclusion Extended care service for elderly patients with cataract can effectively alleviate their negative emotions such as anxiety and depression, improve their self-management ability, quality of life, and prognosis.
