Abstract

• To improve the electrochemistry of LiMn 2 O 4 by partial substitution of Li by Na. • Na-substitution can improve the cycling stability. • A new, low-cost method to improve its electrode properties due to low-cost of Na resource. In general, the most extensively used strategy to improve the cycling life of spinel-type LiMn 2 O 4 is the partial substitution of Mn element by other metal elements, such as Li, Al, and Ni . In this article, a novel idea has been proposed. The improvement of its cycling stability is realized by substituting partial Li element by Na, i.e. the electrochemistry of Li 1 − x Na x Mn 2 O 4 ( x = 0.00, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, 0.06 and 0.08) has been primarily investigated. The experiment results have proved the effect of Na-substitution. It was found that Na is effective to improve the electrode properties of spinel-type LiMn 2 O 4 .
