Abstract

The compound MDMP (2-(4-methyl-1, 6-dinitroanilino)-N-methyl propionamide) has been shown to inhibit the growth? of excised wheat embryos in culture and to prevent the incor-t poration of amino acids into the protein fraction of such tissue1. Subsequent studies have revealed the compound to be a powerful and specific inhibitor of peptide initiation in cell-free wheat embryo preparations, apparently acting to prevent the interaction of the 60S ribosomal subunits with the 40S ribosomal subunit-mRNA-met-tRNA complex2.
