Abstract

The linear magnetic sensor is widely used in a high precision positioning system. In the installation of the linear magnetic system, any curved or uneven surfaces of the magnetic medium would result in significant fluctuations in the final recording accuracy during the position sensing process. This article investigates the effect of medium curvature on recording accuracy through experimental approaches. The results suggest that significant recording accuracy can be affected by the magnetic-flux density distribution over the medium caused by the medium curvature during installation. Through magneto-characteristic analysis, it also suggests that if the medium can be flattened, the recording accuracy can be improved.
