Abstract

This paper dwells on the function of fly ash as a cement replacement material and pore-filling material in the concrete and the resultant effect on strength properties. The investigations revealed that the optimum percentage of substitution of fly ash for cement varies with the w/c ratio of the concrete. The higher quantities of cement can be replaced in the case of lower w/c ratios and vice-versa. It is also observed that the compressive strength of the concrete increases due to the pore-filling effect of the fly ash.
